Podcast 51: Lost in a Good Game

(Hey. You. Here’s a free podcast. Now, how about you follow me on Twitter at @JamieMadigan or the Facebook page for all this? Cool? Cool.)

It’s time for part one of a two part miniseries on Psychology of Games summer reading! In this episode I’ll talk with Dr. Pete Etchells, author of the new book Lost in a Good Game: Why We Play Video Games and What They Can Do For Us. Which is available …checks calendar NOW!

This week’s guest expert, Dr. Pete Etchells

Part travelogue, a little bit memoir, and a whole lot of psychology of video games, Lost in a Good Game explores what makes games so special and what they can do for us. Dr. Etchells also dives deep into the research and state of the debate around things like video game violence, gaming addiction, screen time, eSports, and what good psychology research on video games looks like. It’s a good read and this was a fun conversation.

  1. Ordered this book having just read the ep title. Jamie has never steered me wrong.

As for recommendations, video game non-fiction is about all I read. A recent good book is How to Do Things with Videogames by Ian Bogost. I’ve also been on a binge of Boss Fight Books.
